Bruises: Are They Normal After Treatment?

WonderSculpt Bali · 2 min read

Noticing a few marks after a body sculpting session can be surprising, especially the first time. The short answer is that light, temporary bruising can happen — particularly in the first sessions — but it isn’t a goal of the treatment, and it’s something we actively try to avoid by adapting the pressure to you.

Why bruises can appear

Sculpting techniques such as Wood Therapy and Brazilian Molding work with firm pressure and intense movements. In some people, this can affect the tiny blood vessels close to the surface of the skin. You are more likely to notice light bruising if:

  • You have sensitive or thin skin
  • You tend to bruise easily in everyday life
  • You have poor circulation or significant fluid retention
  • The area has dense cellulite or a lot of tension
  • It’s one of your first sessions
  • You are taking medication or supplements that affect blood clotting

How long do they last?

Light bruising after a treatment is usually temporary and fades naturally within a few days, going through the typical colour changes as it heals. Most clients find that marks become less frequent — or disappear altogether — as the sessions progress and circulation improves.

How we prevent them

More pressure doesn’t mean better results. Our therapists adapt every session to your body:

  • We ask about your sensitivity and bruising history before starting
  • We start more gently on the first sessions and increase gradually
  • We use smoother tools and lighter pressure on delicate areas
  • We adjust the intensity whenever you ask during the session

If you bruised after a previous session, tell us at your next visit. We’ll adapt the technique so it doesn’t happen again.

Caring for your skin afterwards

  • Stay well hydrated
  • Avoid hot baths, saunas and intense sun on the area for a day or two
  • Wear comfortable clothing that doesn’t press on the area
  • Give the skin time — avoid treating a bruised area again until it has faded

When to contact a doctor

Light bruising is not a cause for concern, but please seek medical advice if you notice bruises that are very large, painful or don’t fade, bruises that appear without any treatment, or swelling, heat or pain in one leg. If you take blood-thinning medication or have a clotting condition, consult your doctor before booking a sculpting treatment.

Prefer a gentler option?

If you have very sensitive skin, you may enjoy starting with Lymphatic Drainage, which uses slow and gentle movements, before moving on to more intense sculpting. You can also read what wood therapy feels like.

Frequently asked questions

Are bruises a sign that the treatment is working?

No. Results don’t depend on bruising. If bruises appear, the intensity should be adapted.

Can I have a session if I still have a bruise?

We recommend waiting until the area has healed, or we’ll simply work around it during your session.

Will I bruise every time?

Most clients bruise less, or not at all, as sessions progress and the pressure is adjusted to their skin.
